The Big BaNES 100k - local charities launch new challenge for youth mental health
Walk, run, cycle, swim, skate, kayak or do it your way! This is the call from local youth charities, Mentoring Plus and Off The Record, and creators of The Bath 5k Map, who have teamed up to launch The Big BaNES 100k - a new nature-based fundraising challenge, to support young people’s mental health and emotional wellbeing.
The Big BaNES 100k launches on Friday 17 May and local residents can combine any number of activities to reach the 100k milestone. The challenge will run until Friday 27 September, and organisers are encouraging fundraisers to get out into the beautiful BaNES countryside and bring friends, family, colleagues and community groups with them.
Getting out and about in Bath & North East Somerset with our mentees

Outdoor activities
Bath City Farm is a local community farm in Twerton. Animal food costs 50p per bag and you can enjoy feeding goats, ducks, horses, pigs and chickens. After a walk around the farm, enjoy the fantastic café (open Tues-Sun), which is located next door to the play area.
Alexandra Park has incredible views of Bath, a great play park, and ping pong tables which you can use for free (we can lend our mentors some). On a Friday The Choux Box Patisserie parks up selling the most delicious choux buns and hot chocolate.
Our Volunteer Mentoring Programme receives generous support from Somerset Freemasons
Last week, the Somerset Freemasons generously awarded Mentoring Plus with a grant of £66,000 to support our Volunteer Mentoring Programme, enabling us to train 48 adult Volunteer Mentors over the next two years, and match them with young people in our community who need positive role models.

What can we do alongside schools to help young people cope within them?inspire@mentoringplus.net
That’s our theme at this year’s Mentoring Plus AGM on Monday the 27th Nov, 6.30pm, with speakers and discussion: what can we do to help young people struggling in school. We know we can't fix everything, but we don’t accept that we can do nothing. If you have children and teens at school, if you’re a school staff member, a fellow professional, a supporter of our work or just interested in young people’s wellbeing, we want you to join the conversation. Please RSVP toThe Big Give Christmas Appeal
The Big Give Christmas Challenge, the UK’s biggest match-funding campaign, is back again. You can DOUBLE your donation to Mentoring Plus. We are delighted to have already received matched giving pledges for £7,500 BUT to unlock this amount, we need to raise another £7,500 IN JUST 7 DAYS!
If we reach our fundraising target we will be able to support the salary for our Volunteer Mentoring Senior Practitioner next year. This skilled team member leads the project and directly supports up to 15 young people and their mentors at any one time. It’s a pivotal role, managing referrals, assessments, mentor training and matching and safeguarding.
Please help our work! You can donate online at The Big Give from Tuesday 28th November until Tuesday 5th December.
Charity Christmas Trees
We will be holding our charity Christmas Tree sale this December. You can pre-order your tree from our shop, for collection in December, or come and visit us at our Youth Hub just off the London Rd in Bath. All the trees are Nordman Firs which are renowned for not losing their needles and from a sustainable tree farm in the UK.
Whether you are looking to buy for your office, pub, shop or home buy your tree from us and know that you are supporting young people in your community who are facing really tough challenges in their lives this Christmas.
Bath 5k Map Launch
Join us on World Mental Health Day, Tuesday the 10th of October, for a 5k walk from the map with Off the Record and Annie Legge who developed the map as a tool to build community, encourage access to the outdoors and enable more time offline to support mental health and wellbeing. It has been beautifully illustrated by Bath Based illustrator Ellie Shipman.

Celebration Event
We’d love our community to join us at Riverside Youth Hub to enjoy an exhibition of our young people’s creativity, plus a chance to join in with some communal art, activities, refreshments and fun. We’ll be introducing Shoulder to Shoulder, a short film made by our mentees and youth club members.
