Maggie Hearne

Mentoring Services Practitioner

Responsibilities: I work across both volunteer and professional mentoring, supporting both volunteer mentors and young people across a range of ages and experiences. I meet with young people, find out about their interests and goals, before matching them up with a suitable mentor. We do lots of check-ins along the way, so everyone is fully supported throughout their mentoring journey.
Previous experience: Whilst at the University of Sussex studying International Development, I volunteered for 3 years at an amazing charity supporting young people experiencing homelessness. Here I engaged with lots of 1-1 work, as well as setting up a group for women and non-binary people. My most recent role was with a charity supporting young people who have experienced parental loss, working on the operational side. I have also completed a Forest School qualification so massively appreciate the value of spending time in the outdoors with young people.
Likes Mentoring Plus because: In my previous roles I have seen the need for role models in young people's lives so I hugely admire how Mentoring Plus is filling this gap. I love being around young people and am constantly learning new ideas and perspectives on the world from them.
Good at: Cold water plunges, walking long distances, getting stuck on the sofa for far too long...
Not so good at: Dancing - currently learning salsa but I always seem to be turning the wrong way!

Support our work

Each young person we support has a different story to tell - each one as powerful as the next.
