Help us help young people access activities

Could you be the right person to help our young people access group activities?

Many young people referred for 1-1 support to Mentoring Plus also benefit from fun, well-supported group activities, helping them make new friends, try new things and build confidence. Our young people live all over Bath & NE Somerset and a key part of offering this support is ensuring they can travel to activity sessions safely.

We’re looking for kind, reliable freelance sessional workers (these are paid roles) 3-4 hours per week to help us offer this access: picking up to 3 young people up, driving them to the session and home again. During the session you’ll be supporting a group leader to help ensure everyone feels safe, happy and able to participate in activities such as cookery, fun sports, arts and crafts and community projects.

During your journeys you’ll often be listening to young people about how they are feeling, supporting them to reflect and occasionally reporting back any concerns to our safeguarding team. And mostly having lots of laughs and arguing about what music to play.

You don’t need formal qualifications but experience of supporting young people is required e.g. in school, youth work, mentoring, counselling or similar. You do need to be a full driving licence holder, have consistent access to a safe, reliable passenger vehicle seating at least 5 and business insurance (which can often be added to a domestic policy at low or no extra cost). Your travel is fully reimbursed.

We need sessional workers regularly on Monday evenings in termtime supporting 11-21 year olds (usually between 5 and 8pm) and occasionally Wednesdays around the same times. We also need help offering occasional daytime sessions in school holidays (not Christmas) which could lead you into bushcraft, farm visits, arts and crafts or sport. These sessions are offered to the same age group, plus our primary mentees aged 7-11.

Many of our young people live in the Norton Radstock and Keynsham areas, so applications from sessional workers living in or near these locations are very welcome.

We follow Safer Recruitment procedures and need all applicants to complete and submit a full application form (submission details on the form). These roles are also subject to an enhanced DBS check and references taken and verified.

We aim to recruit as soon as possible and will hold this opportunity open until our roles are filled.
