Anita MacCallum

Senior Practitioner - Professional Mentoring

Responsibilities: My job is to oversee the professional mentoring service and to support the professional mentors to deliver their excellent work with young people.

I meet young people, we do a personal plan and then I match them to mentors, it’s exciting to hear about all the activities they get up to.

I work in partnership with schools, support services and families to make sure that young people’s voices are being heard.

Previous experience: The last twenty years I’ve been working with marginalised communities to be creative, from children, to elders, people with mental health needs, LGBTQIA+ community, young offenders, everyone in the community really. I love bringing people together to create plays, poetry and art, supporting people to build connection through self-expression. I have enjoyed delivering training around accessibility and facilitating groups. Also worked with young people in the youth justice service for four years, supporting them to do activities that build young people’s skills and raise the voice of young people.

Likes mentoring plus because people are passionate about what they do, creating supportive relationships with young people and encouraging positive experiences. There’s often young people making delicious cakes in the kitchen, which is great!

Good at:  writing, swimming, reading a good book and trying new things.

Not so good at: Riding a unicycle, surfing and singing

Support our work

Each young person we support has a different story to tell - each one as powerful as the next.
