Even a smoothie-making bike adds to community challenge mileage!
Over 100 people have joined Mentoring Plus to cover enough ground between them to ‘reach’ all 9 of Bath’s twin cities in Europe. Families and individuals are donating the miles covered during their daily exercise towards the charity’s Great Community Virtual Challenge.
Families are encouraged to use any form of exercise so long as it is within current government guidelines.
‘It’s great to hear how people are enjoying taking part while they exercise with their families’, says Executive Director of Mentoring Plus, Ruth Keily, ‘allowing all of us to feel part of the community, in these challenging times, whilst travelling around Europe – all virtually of course.’
Many unique and unusual forms of exercise including indoor turbo bikes, walking up and down the stairs and even a smoothie-making bike ridden by 7 year old Martha, have been used to contribute the miles so far.
The charity’s supporters have completed over 2000 miles, half of the virtual challenge to date including reaching the distance to travel to three of our twinned cities: Alkmaar, Netherlands, Brunswick, Germany and Kaposvar in Hungary.
‘We are almost at our fourth destination, Aix-en-Provence with just 5 twinned cities to go – all in France’ says Ruth. ‘We are hoping that more of the BANES community and beyond will help us reach our destinations by contributing the miles they cover to our challenge, and make a financial donation if they can’.
‘Our virtual challenge now coincides with the national 2.6 Challenge launched to help save charities like ours. Any money donated to us this week will be enhanced by the 2.6 Challenge, so support from our community will have an even greater impact!’
