This year’s theme for International Day of the Girl 2019 is ‘Empowering Girls for a Brighter Tomorrow.’ At Mentoring Plus we are passionate about offering girls equal opportunities to ensure they feel seen, heard and valued. To reflect this, we run a female youth club called Girls’ Group; a safe space for girls to meet fortnightly, take part in fun activities and share hopes, dreams and worries with skilled practitioners and wonderful guest speakers. In the last couple of months alone, the girls have taken part in workshops with many organisations including The Real Period Project, Avon & Wildlife Trust, The Body Shop and She Rallies.
We asked why Girls’ Group is important to them:
“We can talk about anything, make friends and get help and advice”
“It’s a kind place where everyone is really open about how they’re feeling, which we don’t get anywhere else”
“It’s fun! It’s so good that’s it’s all girls, you can say exactly what you want to”
We are always looking out for inspiring women to visit the group – get in touch with Katy firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like more information.
In November 2017 we held a conference exploring the challenges that girls from Mentoring Plus face growing up in Bath and North East Somerset. In preparation for the conference, our girls created this film working with film-maker Dan Martin which they shared at the event.
